10 Best AI Books for Marketers in 2026 (Sorted by Job)

· AI Resources

The best AI books for marketers in 2026 fall into four jobs: use AI this week, judge the claims, plan the strategy and see what's coming. Start with Co-Intelligence, keep AI Snake Oil nearby for vendor pitches, and use the list below to find the book that fits the job in front of you.

What AI Chatbots Miss About the Best AI Books

On November 5, 2026, I asked ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity three versions of "which AI books should I read," one from a marketer with no technical background. Co-Intelligence by Ethan Mollick came up in 11 of the 12 answers. None mentioned Co-Existence, the follow-up Mollick published on October 20, 2026, including the 10 answers that searched the web live. Fair enough for a two-week-old book, but it shows how slowly those answers catch up.

For marketers, the current material is in the new editions: The AI Marketing Canvas added GEO and AI agents in January 2026, and Pam Didner's primer added Claude and Microsoft Copilot chapters this year. Meanwhile two of the marketer picks those answers favored, Marketing Artificial Intelligence and the updated Prediction Machines, came out before ChatGPT launched on November 30, 2022. Keep them for the frameworks and check the date on any tool advice.

How I Picked These Books

I'm not ranking these on my own reading. I reviewed AI Snake Oil and MoneyGPT on my YouTube channel, and I quote those videos below. Everything else is research, with most candidates coming from the 12 AI answers. I added Pam Didner's 2026 primer for sales and marketing people, which only ChatGPT named, and Nate Herk's book because I know his work and chose to give it a high spot. Dates, editions and lengths come from each publisher, author or Amazon page, checked November 5, 2026.

Best AI Books for Marketers in 2026

Job 1: Use AI this week (books 1 to 3)

1. Co-Intelligence by Ethan Mollick (Best for building a daily AI habit)

Best AI books: Co-Intelligence by Ethan Mollick, hardcover cover
Co-Intelligence: Living and Working with AI (Portfolio, 2024).

Co-Intelligence is the default first pick. Mollick teaches at Wharton, writes the One Useful Thing newsletter and builds the book around four rules for working with AI, from inviting AI to the table on everyday tasks to assuming today's AI is the worst you will ever use.

His follow-up, Co-Existence: The Next Phase of AI, came out on October 20, 2026. I left it unranked because it's too new to weigh against the others.

Best for: Anyone who uses ChatGPT or Claude a few times a week and wants a better habit.

Keep in mind: Published in April 2024, so the models it describes are a few generations old.

Rating: 4.6 stars from 541 Amazon ratings (Portfolio).

2. Becoming AI Native by Nate Herk (Best for deciding what to automate)

Best AI books: Becoming AI Native by Nate Herk, paperback cover
Becoming AI Native: Use AI to Get Real Results Without the Busywork (2026).

The description for Becoming AI Native opens with a question most marketers have asked: "You're using AI. So why are you busier than ever?" Nate runs one of the AI automation channels on my AI YouTube channels list, and the book lays out a no-code system he calls the Three M's: Mindset, Method and Machine.

I know Nate personally, and ranking his book second is my editorial call. My case rests on the book's own description: it's the shortest book here, and it's built around the extra work AI can create for busy people. He pays me nothing.

Best for: Marketers who already use AI daily and feel busier for it.

Keep in mind: Self-published, and it leans toward automation, the focus of Nate's channel.

Rating: 4.4 stars from 42 Amazon ratings (independently published).

3. The Modern AI Marketer in the GPT Era by Pam Didner (Best for a two-hour primer)

Best AI books: The Modern AI Marketer in the GPT Era 3rd Edition by Pam Didner, cover
The Modern AI Marketer in the GPT Era, 3rd Edition (2026).

Pam Didner wrote The Modern AI Marketer in the GPT Era, per its own page, for "sales and marketing professionals who are still figuring out where AI fits in their day." ChatGPT ranked it second for my marketer question. The 2026 edition adds chapters on Claude (Chat, Cowork and Code) and Microsoft Copilot across Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams.

Best for: A sales or marketing teammate who is new to AI.

Keep in mind: Its own page pitches it as a primer for people still finding their footing with AI.

Rating: No Amazon rating I could verify. The author says it reads in about two hours.

Job 2: Judge the claims (books 4 and 5)

4. AI Snake Oil by Arvind Narayanan and Sayash Kapoor (Best for judging vendor claims)

Best AI books: AI Snake Oil by Arvind Narayanan and Sayash Kapoor, hardcover cover
AI Snake Oil: What Artificial Intelligence Can Do, What It Can't, and How to Tell the Difference (Princeton University Press, 2024).

Princeton computer scientists Arvind Narayanan and Sayash Kapoor cover predictive AI, generative AI and AI content moderation on social media in AI Snake Oil. Their central line: generative AI has real uses, while predictive AI that claims to forecast people's futures often can't work as sold.

In my April 2025 video review, I pointed to a study that claimed to predict hit songs with 97% accuracy. When Kapoor and Narayanan reran it, it did little better than random. I called the book required reading for anyone building, investing or marketing with AI, because it sharpens your BS detector for vendor demos: does the tool work, and was it tested on real data or a cherry-picked demo?

Best for: Anyone who buys AI software or sits through vendor demos.

Keep in mind: Its examples come from education, medicine, hiring, banking, insurance and criminal justice, so you map them to marketing yourself.

Rating: 4.4 stars from 692 Amazon ratings (Princeton University Press).

5. Superagency by Reid Hoffman and Greg Beato (Best for the optimist's case)

Best AI books: Superagency by Reid Hoffman and Greg Beato, cover
Superagency: What Could Possibly Go Right with Our AI Future (Authors Equity, 2025).

LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman argues in Superagency that AI will expand what individual people can do. Where AI Snake Oil asks which claims hold up, this book asks what could go right, which makes it useful for a team that is wary of AI.

Best for: Marketers who need to win over a skeptical team.

Keep in mind: Hoffman invests in AI companies and co-founded Inflection AI in 2022 with Mustafa Suleyman, the author of book #9.

Rating: 4.4 stars from 387 Amazon ratings (Authors Equity).

Job 3: Plan the strategy (books 6 to 8)

6. Marketing Artificial Intelligence by Paul Roetzer and Mike Kaput (Best for an AI plan for your team)

Best AI books: Marketing Artificial Intelligence by Paul Roetzer and Mike Kaput, cover
Marketing Artificial Intelligence: AI, Marketing, and the Future of Business (Matt Holt Books, 2022).

Roetzer founded the Marketing AI Institute, the site the marketer-focused AI answers cited most, and its newsletter is on my best AI newsletters list. Marketing Artificial Intelligence is the book version of that work, with use cases, examples and a list of AI vendors to watch, per its description.

Best for: Marketing managers who own an AI rollout.

Keep in mind: Published five months before ChatGPT, so treat the tool advice as dated.

Rating: 4.3 stars from 101 Amazon ratings (Matt Holt Books).

7. The AI Marketing Canvas by Raj Venkatesan and Jim Lecinski (Best for a step-by-step roadmap)

Best AI books: The AI Marketing Canvas Second Edition by Venkatesan and Lecinski, cover
The AI Marketing Canvas, Second Edition (Stanford Business Books, 2026).

Two business school professors, Venkatesan at UVA's Darden School and Lecinski at Northwestern's Kellogg School, wrote The AI Marketing Canvas as a five-step plan for bringing AI into a marketing program. The January 2026 second edition adds a simple 2x2 grid for picking your highest-value use cases and new material on GEO (getting found in AI answers) and AI agents.

Best for: Marketing leads who need a plan they can present.

Keep in mind: Buy the second edition, and expect to scale it down if you're a team of one, since its description speaks to CMOs and marketing teams.

Rating: 4.6 stars from 6 Amazon ratings (Stanford Business Books).

8. Prediction Machines by Agrawal, Gans and Goldfarb (Best for the business case)

Best AI books: Prediction Machines Updated and Expanded, cover
Prediction Machines, Updated and Expanded (Harvard Business Review Press, 2022).

Three economists wrote Prediction Machines around one idea: AI makes prediction cheap, and cheap prediction changes which decisions are worth making. Its Amazon listing notes The Economist named it one of "the five best books to understand AI." The sequel, Power and Prediction, covers what happens once AI spreads across a business.

Best for: Marketers who have to justify an AI budget.

Keep in mind: Written by economists for executives, and the updated edition still predates ChatGPT.

Rating: 4.4 stars from 220 Amazon ratings (Harvard Business Review Press).

Job 4: See what's coming (books 9 and 10)

9. The Coming Wave by Mustafa Suleyman (Best for seeing where AI is headed)

Best AI books: The Coming Wave by Mustafa Suleyman, hardcover cover
The Coming Wave, hardcover edition (Crown, 2023).

Suleyman co-founded DeepMind and now runs Microsoft AI. In The Coming Wave, written with Michael Bhaskar, he argues that AI is spreading faster than anyone can contain it. It has the most Amazon ratings of any book here, and its Amazon listing quotes Bill Gates calling it "My favorite book on AI."

Best for: Marketers who want the long view before their next big bet.

Keep in mind: Its own description calls it "an urgent warning," so expect risk and policy more than marketing tactics.

Rating: 4.3 stars from 5,475 Amazon ratings (Crown).

10. Empire of AI by Karen Hao (Best for understanding OpenAI)

Best AI books: Empire of AI by Karen Hao, hardcover cover
Empire of AI: Dreams and Nightmares in Sam Altman's OpenAI (Penguin Press, 2025).

Journalist Karen Hao's Empire of AI tells the story of how OpenAI went from nonprofit lab to the company behind ChatGPT, which helps explain where the tool you rely on is headed. It won the National Book Critics Circle Award for Nonfiction, per its Amazon listing.

Best for: Marketers who want to know the company behind their main AI tool.

Keep in mind: At 496 pages, it's the longest book here.

Rating: 4.4 stars from 2,503 Amazon ratings (Penguin Press).

What About Other Popular AI Books?

These are well known or came up in my research. Each is unranked for the reason given.

  • Almost Timeless (Christopher S. Penn): 48 principles of generative AI, sold direct on Gumroad. No AI answer named it, and Didner's book covers the marketer angle more directly.
  • The Age of AI (Kissinger, Schmidt and Huttenlocher): From 2021, before generative AI went mainstream. The Coming Wave is the newer big-picture read.
  • Nexus (Yuval Noah Harari): A history of information networks. For a marketer, The Coming Wave covers the near-term version.
  • If Anyone Builds It, Everyone Dies (Yudkowsky and Soares): The extinction-risk argument. For risk, The Coming Wave stays closer to the companies you buy from.
  • MoneyGPT (James Rickards): I reviewed it on my channel and said it's a push for marketers to be more discerning. Its subject is AI and financial markets, so it sits outside this list.

Skip These: Technical Textbooks and Keyword-Stuffed AI Books

AI Engineering by Chip Huyen, Hands-On Machine Learning by Aurélien Géron and Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach by Russell and Norvig are built for engineers. You don't need them to use AI well in marketing.

The bigger trap is the pile of low-effort AI books. Before you buy an "AI for marketers" title you've never heard of, watch for four warning signs:

  • No findable author: no track record outside Amazon
  • A stuffed title: hype verbs or a percentage promise
  • A generic preview: tips that could fit any industry
  • Suspicious timing: published weeks after a major model launch, next to dozens of near-identical titles

How to Choose Your First AI Book

Diagram matching the best AI books to four jobs: use AI this week, judge the claims, plan the strategy, see what's coming
The four jobs, in the same order as the list.

  • Use AI less than once a day? Co-Intelligence, or Didner's primer for a teammate.
  • Already daily, but busier than before? Becoming AI Native.
  • About to buy AI software? AI Snake Oil.
  • Need to win over a skeptical team? Superagency.
  • Own a team or a budget? Marketing Artificial Intelligence or The AI Marketing Canvas, then Prediction Machines.
  • Want the big picture? The Coming Wave, then Empire of AI.

One Book, Then One Weekly Source

Best AI Books FAQs

What is the best AI book for beginners?

Co-Intelligence by Ethan Mollick is the usual first pick. It assumes no technical background and came up in 11 of the 12 AI answers I checked in November 2026. For a shorter start aimed at sales and marketing, try Pam Didner's The Modern AI Marketer in the GPT Era. I picked both from research, not my own reading.

What are the best AI books in 2026?

The newest books on this list are Becoming AI Native by Nate Herk (July 2026), the 2026 second edition of The AI Marketing Canvas and the 2026 third edition of Pam Didner's The Modern AI Marketer in the GPT Era. Mollick's Co-Existence came out on October 20, 2026, too recently to rank.

Are there good AI books written for marketers?

Yes. The AI Marketing Canvas by Raj Venkatesan and Jim Lecinski and Marketing Artificial Intelligence by Paul Roetzer and Mike Kaput were the two marketing books the AI answers I checked named most. The Canvas got a second edition in January 2026, while Roetzer's book predates ChatGPT. Pam Didner's 2026 primer is the shortest marketer-specific option. All three are research picks, not books I'm vouching for from my own reading.

What is Bill Gates' favorite AI book?

The Amazon listing for The Coming Wave by Mustafa Suleyman quotes Bill Gates calling it "My favorite book on AI," from his GatesNotes blog. Suleyman co-founded DeepMind and now runs Microsoft AI, and the book is about how fast AI is spreading and the risks that come with it.

Should I read AI books or follow AI news?

Both, for different jobs. Books give you frameworks that last, like Mollick's four rules or the vendor questions in AI Snake Oil. News keeps you current on tools that change monthly, so follow one weekly source, like a pick from my AI newsletters or AI YouTube channels lists.

Disclosure: I'm not ranking these on my own reading. I reviewed AI Snake Oil and MoneyGPT on YouTube, and the AI Snake Oil video's description has an Amazon affiliate link. I know Nate Herk personally and ranked his book second. He pays me nothing, and no author or publisher paid for a spot. Checked November 5, 2026. Full disclosure.
